The full trailer for My Week With Marilyn, starring Michelle Williams as Monroe, was released today. Marilyn may have died over forty years ago but, in true testament to her incredible legacy, she continues to fascinate and inspire. She’s credited with creating and shaping our perception of modern celluloid icons, but how much do we really know about her? This soon to be released film, directed by Simon Carter, documents the time Monroe spent in London whilst filming The Prince and the Showgirl with Laurence Olivier (1956). Michelle Williams seems to be a Monroe natural, and has certainly been playing up to the hype, appearing on the front cover of October’s US Vogue in a shoot by Annie Leibovitz. Clad in a barely-there embellished pink gown, her hair teased into natural waves, she radiates the inner glow that has come to define Marilyn, in the accompanying interview she comments – “I wish that I could play her for the rest of my life”. It will certainly be interesting to see how Williams’ passion translates into Monroe on the silver screen….
The world premiere of My Week With Marilyn will take place at the 49th New York Film Festival, 9 October, with the UK release scheduled for November.
